This is a copy of the very first Sunday Blues press release, it's issue, in early Sep 2002, resulted in an announcement in issue 10 of Blues Freepress, "The World's Favourite Online-only Blues Magazine". This press release tells of the origins of Sunday Blues and suggests artistic parameters.
FOR IMMEDIATE DISSEMINATION
THE BLUES IS BACK IN HULL
Sunday Blues...
'Blues ev'ry day of the week sure is bad...
But them Sunday Blues are the worst old Blues I ever had.'- Howlin Wolf
When asked recently why Hull's premier live music venue, The New
Adelphi Club, didn't ever open on Sunday afternoons; owner Paul
Jackson bemusedly admitted that he had never considered it. Freddy
James, internationally acclaimed Blues musician and resident in Hull
since 1999, immediately took up the challenge to present a quality
programme of live Blues, R&B, Blues-rock & associated musical styles
every Sunday afternoon at the New Adelphi.
'Sunday Blues' is not a society or association with membership &
secretary etc... just a regular Sunday afternoon live music gig which
aims to present a spectrum of musical styles within the Blues and R&B
sphere. All styles will be represented in the Sunday Blues gig
calendar with local acts appearing in the schedule as well as national
and international artists who have, for far too long, been bypassing
Hull entirely.
Each Sunday Blues session will feature a supporting act from 2 to 3pm
before the main act takes the stage from 3 to 5pm, admission prices
are being kept very reasonable by virtue of Paul Jackson's enthusiasm
and generosity in donating his premises cost-free; this means that all
proceeds will go to the bands and artists appearing.
With fine ale and very favourable bar prices, The New Adelphi Club is
THE place to be on a Sunday afternoon.

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE DISSEMINATION ...
After much deliberation it has been decided to discontinue the weekly Sunday Blues sessions. The appeal of
the Sunday pm gig-slot in Hull was, perhaps, overjudged . . . even when The Hull Daily Mail "got it
right" for The Cadillac Kings appearance on 23 Apr, the turnout was disappointing, this despite a low-price ticket policy with
concessions for the unwaged etc. Thanks go to everyone who has been involved with Sunday Blues over the
past 6 months . . . the bands & artists, the media, the venue and, most
of all the small nucleus of Sunday afternoon Blueshounds who were determined to have a good time & to enjoy the excellent performances
each week.
